How verification works.
First it starts in Japan.
Where a bag comes from matters as much as how it's checked. Every Seconds Club piece is sourced from Japan, home to the most trusted second-hand luxury market in the world, and that's no accident.
Japan's resale market is built on a culture of meticulous care and strict regulation. Second-hand dealers and auction houses must be government-licensed to trade, selling counterfeits is illegal and heavily policed, and reputable houses authenticate rigorously before a piece ever changes hands.

Our verification begins at the source. Every piece we buy is first authenticated by our trusted Japanese partners: licensed second-hand specialists who assess pre-owned luxury for a living, handle thousands of designer pieces, and know each house's construction intimately. A bag only leaves Japan once it has cleared their inspection, and only then does it enter the rest of the Seconds Club process.
We don't think that risk should ever land on you. So we've built our entire process around removing it, combining specialist expertise with technology that sees what the human eye can't. By the time a bag is listed, its authenticity has already been settled, three times.
Professional inspection.
Each piece is examined by hand once it arrives to the club. Every bag is checked against the details:
- Materials and leather: grain, texture, weight and finish
- Craftsmanship: stitch count, thread tension, symmetry and edge painting
- Hardware: weight, plating, engraving depth and zipper mechanics
- Logos and branding: font, spacing, alignment and placement
- Date codes and serials: format, location and consistency with the model and era
